The Get Active Challenge is all about getting more active! To help you visualise this and set yourself a target, we have developed the Get Active Challenge tool which gives you the ultimate aim of travelling around the Cornish coast by converting any physical activity that you do into miles.

We will be running Corporate Challenges throughout the year which you can take part in as part of a team with your workmates but you can also set yourself Personal Challenges or Private Team Challenges at any other time (when the Corporate Challenge isn't running).

The Cornish pilot gig is a six-oared rowing boat, built of Cornish narrow leaf elm, 32 feet (9.8 m) long with a beam of four feet ten inches. The original purpose of the Cornish pilot gig was as a general work boat, and the craft is used for taking pilots out to incoming vessels off the Atlantic. In those days the race would be the first gig to get their pilot on board a vessel (often those about to run aground on rocks) got the job, and hence the payment. Today, pilot gigs are used primarily for sport, with around 100 clubs across the globe.

A gym usually includes a cardio area which includes many types of cardiovascular training-related equipment such as rowing machines, stationary exercise bikes, elliptical trainers and treadmills. A resistance area with resistance machines and free weights are often commonly found in gyms. Gym's now usually include audio-visual displays in order to keep exercisers entertained during long cardio workout sessions.
