Autism Spectrum Condition Awareness Training
The Autism Spectrum team at Cornwall Council have teamed up with Cornwall Sports Partnership to offer a short introduction to ASC for sports coaches and those delivering activity.

The objectives of the course are:

  • To increase the understanding and awareness of how young people with autism think and experience the world
  • Particular strengths and challenges for young people with autism in a sport and physical activity context
  • Knowledge of a range of strategies and techniques that will support the participation of young people with autism
  • Motivation to improve the participation of young people in leisure and sport

The training is suitable for:

  • Those delivering sport and physical activity either as qualified coaches or just as an activator within a community, leisure or educational setting
  • Those willing to grow the reach of their activities to cater for young people with autism
  • Those wishing to make sure their activity truly caters for all
  • Those with an interest in ASC and wishing to know more

Autism, Sport and Physical Activity - Online Training
This online training provides a comprehensive introduction to the autism spectrum focusing on the delivery of sport.Developed as part of the Active for autism project, this online module has been created by people who are on the autism spectrum and represents the 'autistic voice'.

Recognising and understanding the key areas of difficulty experienced by both the participants and the session leaders is vital to providing effective support.

By the end of this module you should be able to:

  • describe in basic terms what is meant by autism
  • understand common difficulties faced by autistic people 
  • identify factors that can impact on how sport and physical activity is delivered and coached
  • identify factors that can impact on an autistic person's experience of sport and physical activity
  • recognise and respond to the needs autistic people have while engaging in sport and physical activity environments.
