Tamar and Tavy Gig Club

We offer THREE FREE SESSIONS for new rowers.
Tamar and Tavy Gig Rowing Club was formed in 2004 on the banks of the River Tamar at Weir Quay. We row three boats – Ginette (b. 2004) and Tamar (b. 2008), our two traditional wooden pilot gigs for racing, and Belinda O’Flynn (b. 2010), our glass fibre boat for training. We are very active within Devon and Cornwall regularly attending regattas at Rock, Rame, Salcombe, Saltash and many more but also travelling further afield to London, Lundy and even Eddystone Lighthouse. In only our second year we not only participated in the Great River Race in London but came first in our category and won the Bulgin Pilot Gig Trophy. As a club we are all active participants in the running and organising of everything that happens, from planning training sessions to organising our own regatta in early October everything is run via committee and everyone can have their say, we’re all volunteers and our success is testament to the hard work, time and effort the club members put into it.We put forward a wonderfully wide range of racing crews including our junior under 16s, ladies, men, vets (over 40) and supervets (over 50), all with different abilities and experience. It’s a great feeling to be at regattas together, supporting each other and cheering each other on. It’s great to be part of a sport that can boost such an eclectic range of people and abilities. We've competed annually in the World Pilot Gig Championship since 2004.
