Winners of the Get Active 2015 Workplace Challenge Announced

Provider: Cornwall Sports Partnership

From the 28 September - 8 November teams of three from 58 local businesses from across Cornwall battled against each other for the top spot of this year's Get Active 2015 Workplace Challenge

Over six weeks, 247 competing teams completed various activities to improve and maintain their fitness while circumnavigating the Cornish coastline and plotting their progress.

A 49% increase in team participation, compared with the 2014 Challenge, included staff members from businesses as well as various schools across the region.

By the end of the Challenge, 159817.3 miles had been collectively recorded and the number of steps taken reached 121,410,000.

The Furthest Distance Travelled in the Lynher League was accomplished by Cornwall Council's Slim Tim & a Matter of Fat, completing a staggering 3,483 miles. Clocking up over 270 hours spent on their bike cycling to and from work as well as recreational cycling!
Team Leader, Zoe Perry, said; "All three of us found the challenge tremendous fun and really gets you going the extra mile(s). We found ourselves adding more distance onto our commutes just because of the challenge! It was great to see the distances add up over the weeks and seeing friends in other teams' distances starting to clock up. We were extremely fortunate with the weather, over the course of the challenge, as it allowed us to continue cycling to work, all the way through October and into November! Although there was a couple of days when we thought it could have been drier going for a swim! We hope that our distance didn't put other challengers off, and as it was fantastic to see all of the teams take from so many different workplaces take part"

The Runners up in the Lynher League were staff from Truro College - Amelya Lyndsay, Julian Wills and Emma Seward-Adams, completed 730.26 miles with over 17745 minutes in exercise classes or sports.

The Furthest Distance Travelled in the Fowey League saw The Three Desperados from Cornwall Council (185.07 miles) narrowly beat The Celtic Chicks from H Tempest Photography (184.95 miles)

A Spirit of the Challenge Award was awarded to LDD and H Tempest Photography for being the first year both teams have entered the challenge with 7 teams from LDD and 10 teams from H Tempest Photography taking part.

Cornish Mutual won Most Imaginative Name for their ingenious team title: Coast Busters, which really did sum up the challenge of travelling around the Cornish Coastline!

All teams received Fruit for Work food boxes presented by Bruce Lockie form Cornwall Sports Partnership.
