Modern life has made things much more comfortable for us – so comfortable, in fact, that most of us spend too long sitting down or doing sedentary activity that we’re not burning off the energy we’re consuming.

Of course it’s important to relax, but there’s also a time in the day to get up and about which is something you can do really easily with your family.

So make sure your kids get the best start in life. Being up and about burns energy and helps prevent serious illnesses like type 2 diabetes, heart disease and cancer in later life.

Being active also helps kids to:

  • Sleep well at night
  • Listen and learn at school
  • Control their weight
  • Meet new friends
  • Reduce anxiety and stress
  • Manage their behaviour
  • Express themselves

Although doing sport at school is a great help, time limits mean that not all the physical activity your child needs can take place in school hours.

Parents play a vital role in shaping what their children think about physical activity and therefore how much they do. Encouraging kids to keep active at home, especially at weekends, is the best way to ensure they get all the daily activity they need.

Sharing an activity can also help you spend more quality time with your child.
It might sound difficult but it’s actually a lot easier than you think!

Encouraging them to play is a great way of making sure everyone is moving around and having fun – and learning at the same time - and it doesn’t have to be costly; all you need is a little imagination and lots of enthusiasm!
